Dan Li is Chair Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He received his PhD from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 1999. He joined Monash University as an associate professor in 2008 and was promoted to full professor in 2012, and served as a foundation Co-Director of the Monash Centre for Atomically Thin Materials (2015–2017). He moved to the University of Melbourne in 2017 and, prior to joining HKUST in late 2024, held an Australian Laureate Fellowship there. His research focuses on developing innovative materials and iontronic systems to address challenges in energy, healthcare, and the environment. He is internationally recognised for contributions to graphene-based soft materials, 2D nanoionics, and iontronics. His work has been recognised by multiple prestigious honours, including the Australian Laureate Fellowship and the Hong Kong Global STEM Professorship, and he has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate Analytics.
