Xianwen Shang

Xianwen Shang is a researcher at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with extensive experience in conceiving and leading international, multidisciplinary research projects. Xianwen has directed teams of ophthalmologists, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, nutritionists, and neurologists, resulting in over 100 scientific publications, with more than 40 as first or senior author. With a strong background in statistics and big data analysis, Xianwen’s research primarily explores the complex relationships between eye health and the risk of systemic diseases. Xianwen is also deeply interested in leveraging machine learning techniques to develop predictive scores for chronic diseases, identify key biomarkers of ageing, and advance the early prediction of eye diseases. Through this work, Xianwen aims to bridge data science and medical research, contributing to improved understanding and prevention of both ocular and systemic health conditions.
