Xilai LIU (刘西来)
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
I am currently pursuing a PhD in Physics at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where I began my studies in the autumn of 2023. My research focuses on two-dimensional semiconductor materials, particularly transition metal dichalcogenides. I study emergent quantum phenomena—such as fractional Chern states, superconductivity, correlated insulating states, and topological phases—in monolayers, van der Waals heterostructures, and twisted bilayer and trilayer assemblies. By combining electrical transport measurements (primarily using tunneling diode probes) with optical spectroscopies under low temperatures and external magnetic fields, I aim to uncover novel electronic phases and build foundational insights for next-generation quantum and optoelectronic device architectures.
