Xilai LIU (刘西来)
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
I am currently pursuing a PhD degree in Physics at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology since the autumn of 2023, where I investigate two-dimensional semiconductor materials like the transition metal dichalcogenides . My research centers on emergent quantum phenomena—such as fractional chern states, supercondutivity, correlated insulating states, and topological phases—in monolayers, van der Waals heterostructures, and twisted bilayer and trilayer assemblies. By combining electrical transport measurements (mainly the tunneling diode probe ) with optical spectroscopies in low-temperature and external magnetic field, I aim to uncover novel electronic phases, build foundational insights for next-generation quantum and optoelectronic device architectures.
