Pok Man Tam is a quantum condensed matter theorist investigating the interplay between topology, geometry, and interaction effects in quantum materials. Conceptually, he is interested in characterizing universal features of electronic states by studying novel topological and geometrical invariants and relating them to the quantum information content of quantum many-body systems. Practically, Tam enjoys collaborating with experimentalists to propose flexible platforms and accessible measurements for detecting topological quantum matters. His recent work focuses on the topological aspects of metals, utilizing the concept of Fermi sea topology, and the geometrical aspects of insulators through quantum geometry. Most recently, he has been exploring novel edge phases and their associated quantized transport phenomena that can uniquely arise at the interface between fractional quantum Hall systems and superconductors.
