Kai Sun

Kai Sun is a Professor of Physics at the University of Michigan whose research lies at the intersection of quantum materials, topology, and strongly correlated systems. He is recognized for pioneering work on correlated topological states, including topological Kondo insulators and fractional topological phases, and for developing theoretical frameworks that describe exotic phases of matter such as moiré systems, non-Hermitian systems, and photonic or phononic materials. His work integrates concepts from quantum geometry, many-body physics, and non-equilibrium dynamics to uncover novel emergent behavior in both natural and engineered systems.
Dr. Sun’s contributions have been recognized by his election as a Fellow of the American Physical Society and as a Sloan Research Fellow. He has made sustained contributions to advancing fundamental understanding.
