With the support of the 2020 Cambridge Croucher International Scholarship, Allan Lui will work on characterising drug resistance and its evolution in triple-negative breast cancer study at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.

Croucher study awards open for application

Applications for 2021/2022 Croucher study awards and Science Communication Studentships are now open until 5:00pm on 16 November 2020.

Croucher Foundation study awards enable promising young Hong Kong people to pursue research in the natural sciences, technology and medicine at postdoctoral and doctoral levels. Only permanent Hong Kong residents are eligible to apply.

This year the Foundation has made eight postdoctoral and sixteen doctoral awards, to a total of about HK$32 million, helping students to pursue work at British Columbia, Caltech, Cambridge, Columbia, Imperial College London, John Hopkins, Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, MIT, Oxford, Scripp’s Research Institute, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA, UCL, University of Copenhagen, Denmark and Weill Cornell Medical among others.

We are now inviting applications for awards tenable from autumn 2021.

Croucher Fellowships for postdoctoral research (not for full-time career positions)

For promising young researchers who obtained doctoral degrees after September 2019, students in the final year of their doctoral studies, or qualified medical doctors.

- Tenable at institutions outside Hong Kong.

- Full cost award covering airfares, a contribution towards living expenses and an allowance for research expenses over a period of up to two years.

- Candidates must prepare a detailed research proposal.

Croucher Scholarships for full time PhD studies

For outstanding students with First Class Honours or equivalent degrees, final year undergraduate students, or MPhil students graduating before September 2021.

- Tenable at institutions outside Hong Kong.

- Full cost award including tuition fees, airfares, a contribution towards living expenses and an academic development allowance over a period of up to and including the third year of study.

- Offers to final year undergraduate students conditional upon candidates obtaining First Class Honours or equivalent degrees.

- Candidates must prepare a detailed research proposal.

Croucher Studentships for full time PhD studies

For outstanding students with First Class Honours or equivalent degrees, final year undergraduate students, or MPhil students graduating before September 2021.

- Tenable at institutions in Hong Kong.

- Normally covers HK$80,000 per annum up to and including the third year of PhD studies - may be held concurrently with a university postgraduate studentship or other awards.

- Offers to final year undergraduate students conditional upon candidates obtaining First Class Honours or equivalent degrees.

- Candidates must prepare a detailed research proposal.

Croucher Science Communication Studentships

The Studentships are intended for Hong Kong permanent residents wishing to increase their knowledge and skills by studying for a Master’s degree in science communication at an overseas university or in Hong Kong. Potential candidates with some experience in science communication and are passionate about bringing science closer to the lives of young people are welcome to apply.

Applicants must have obtained at least Second Class Honours Division One in their first degree. Otherwise they must obtain substantively a higher degree by September 2021 to become eligible. Students in their final year of first degree may also apply, but any offer of award will be conditional on their obtaining a suitable qualification upon their graduation by July 2021.

This is a full cost award including tuition fees, airfares, a contribution towards living expenses, an academic development allowance and a project allowance to design and implement activities and projects in schools and in the wider community. A Studentship will be for up to one year.
