CAS President visits Croucher

10 December 2013

In commemoration of almost 30 years of cooperation between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Croucher Foundation, CAS President, Professor Bai Chunli made an inaugural visit to the Croucher Foundation on 5 December 2013.

Bai Chunli was received by Professor Y. W. Kan FRS, former Chairman of the Foundation as well as Professor Dennis Lo FRS and Professor Vivian Yam, trustees of the Foundation, at a preliminary meeting in the afternoon where they discussed the future of the CAS-Croucher partnership.

The Foundation has worked with CAS since 1984, when both parties agreed to collaborate on joint research projects and promote the exchange of visiting professors between Hong Kong and China.

This has culminated into the CAS-Croucher Funding Scheme for Joint Laboratories to encourage researchers in Hong Kong universities and CAS Research Institutes to undertake joint projects with the intention of establishing joint laboratories in the long term.

“It is most encouraging to see that the seeds we planted together in those early days have helped to produce the rich and dynamic array of collaborations we see today,” said Kan at the welcoming dinner held in Professor Bai’s honour that evening.

In front of distinguished members of the scientific research community in Hong Kong, both Kan and Bai reiterated their satisfaction with and glowing expectations for the partnership between CAS and the Foundation.

“I am confident that the friendly relations already established between the Foundation and (the) Academy will continue to flourish, growing from strength to strength,” said Kan.
