Xiaohan Yan (严小涵)
Tsinghua University
Xiaohan holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology from China Agricultural University and is currently a PhD student in Molecular Biology and Genetics at Tsinghua University. Her research interests center on transcriptional initiation at bidirectional promoters, particularly the interactions between sense and antisense transcription during convergent transcription, and the physiological significance of maintaining transcription balance. She focuses on Long Interspersed Nuclear Elements (L1), a type of retrotransposon with internal convergent promoters in its 5' UTR. Xiaohan's work investigates the regulatory activities of the antisense promoter of L1 (L1ASP) during development, the mechanisms of L1 antisense transcription through genomic screens, and the relationship between L1 sense and antisense RNA.
